Exact Path Questions from PD

Adjusting Levels

  • First - Think - is the student’s STAR 360 score accurate?
  • You are free to use your professional judgement when adjusting a student’s level that is higher than grade level. You may not lower the placement below grade level. The suggestion is not to go lower than one grade level from their initial placement.
    • Things to think about -
      • How many lessons will a student take to get back up to where their path placed them?
        • If they are working on skills they have already shown mastery in, will that support student growth?
      • Will they be redoing a lesson they have already mastered (use AWRs to support this)?
      • Could working through the Building Blocks, rather than adjusting the level, get them back up to the same place?
      • Should we allow the frustration that comes with learning something new?
  • If there is an extenuating circumstance where a student needs their level adjusted below grade level, please reach out to the Testing Department. This should be only one-off situations, as the STAR 360 should be accurate in placing a student on their correct learning path.
  • Students will not lose trophies if adjustments are made. - This is different information from what we thought during last year’s trophy challenge.
  • ESN students - If they took the Alternate Skills Assessment or only the Early Literacy STAR 360 test, they will need their grade level adjusted. Please work with the Case Manager to see what grade level would be appropriate.
    • Note - if the Early Literacy Test was taken, they will likely have a correct Reading Learning Path, but the Math Path may need to be adjusted.

Students who start after the Challenge begins

  • Still have to opportunity to complete the challenge, but will not get the full time to finish. They will likely need to spend more time at once in the program to earn the 7 trophies.
  • As you get new students on your roster, you will want to create the challenge in Exact Path for them. Follow the steps HERE, but put today’s date (whatever day it is that you are creating the challenge) as the start date. The end date stays the same.

Monitoring Challenges -

  • For the purposes of the additional planning amounts, the Testing Department will be monitoring challenge completion in the background. The Challenges that have been created by HSTs are to support the student in monitoring their own progress, as well as to enable you being able to monitor in an easy way. We will be using the data the Testing Department pulls at the end of the window to note who to provide the additional planning amounts to.
