At Pacific Coast Academy, we take great pride in affirming and respecting the home languages and cultures of our multilingual students. The Biliteracy Pathway Recognitions are established to recognize preschool, kindergarten, elementary, and middle school students who have demonstrated progress toward proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.

Grade-Level Expectations |
TK–K: Engage in age-appropriate home language activities with family support. Elementary (1st–5th): Develop Novice level proficiency through regular home language use and share work samples. Middle School (6th–8th): Achieve Intermediate to Advanced proficiency; form sentences and paragraphs; share progress at LP meetings. |
TK–K: Show interest in additional languages through songs, stories, and play. Elementary (1st-5th): Novice proficiency using language programs (Mango Languages or Rosetta Stone); provide work samples each semester. Middle School (6th-8th): Target Intermediate proficiency via apps, bilingual media, and projects; share work samples and reflections. |
Grades 6 & 7: Pass CAASPP English Language Arts test (“standards-met” or above) and complete ELA coursework with C or better; EL students must achieve RFEP status by 8th grade. Grade 8: Complete vendor-approved world language course with C or better; maintain English proficiency; share work samples. *Beginning the 2026 - 2027 school year, students will be required to participate in 7th and 8th grade as a 2-year program. 6th grade will be optional, but recommended. |

HST Responsibilities
1. Add participating student's name to BRP tab on roster checklist
2. Monitor participating students' progress in the language(s) he/she is learning each LP and make a note of it in on your roster checklist. (This is not an exhaustive monitoring, just a simple check in to see that the student is continue to show forward progress in the language.)
3. Upload 1 work sample per language in Pathways per semester. HERE are the directions
