Tier 1 Speech Supports

HST Guidance

As a part of a Tier 1 Academic Support Plan, HSTs should guide parents in incorporating supports and strategies to develop speech and language skills when needed.

Examples of Tier 1 Speech Supports:

• Creating a language-rich environemnt
• Integrating language into all subjects
• Providing opportunities for oral language practice
• Promoting literacy through read alouds, storytelling and writing
• Providing specific instruction in new vocabulary concepts
• Providing specific instruction in grammar
• Encouraging opportunities for social communication
